TLDR: Simon Singh takes you through the scientific journey of how we have come to learn about the origin of the universe. The story begins with the Earth-centric view of the universe and follows the scientific developments that have led to proving out the Big Bang. This book lends itself well to a wide audience as it does not delve into the mathematics.
What I liked:
The author tells a pretty detailed history of the progress of our knowledge and how the Big Bang went from a radical idea to an excepted theory and how its predictions have been tested and proved. As with much of our knowledge of our world and the universe, there are many people that contribute to pushing our knowledge forward. This is a well-told story that highlights the contributions made by many scientists, both the famous and not-so-famous.
What I didn't like:
Really, there is not much to dislike about the book. But, if I picked out one thing I would say the lack of chapters. I tend to break up my reading by chapters. This book had five chapters plus the epilogue for a 500-page book.

If you are interested in knowing how the theory of the Big Bang came about and how that theory builds on the scientific knowledge acquired over the centuries, but do not want to be bogged down with heavy math and theory, this is a good book for you. Simon Singh has the ability to break down complicated concepts in an accessible fashion.
